Rattlesnakes

It's not rattlesnake "season" yet, we're just getting warmed up.  But I saw this golf cart outfitted for catching the snakes.  The green sign reads "rattlesnake Jim, pickup and delivery".  He's got containers for the snakes, a stuffed snake behind the driver, and he had long forked tools on the side of his rig.

When people have snakes in their yards or garages they usually call the fire department.  But I think this is a nature guy who helps out with that problem, too.

Another Field Trip

Drove two hours up to Scottsdale on a beautiful, sunny Sunday.  In North Scottsdale is one of Frank Lloyd Wright's homes, Taliesen West.  It was built in the 1930s.  The tour was very interesting and the home is in the desert.  Back when he built it, the house was really in the middle of nowhere, but now it's close to other neighborhoods.

All the glass art is Dale Chihuly's and it will only be there for six months.

The tour sells out every day and it was very interesting to learn about FLW and his buildings.

Then a quick stroll through Old Town Scottsdale which still has several original buildings from the early 1920s.

Burrowing Owls

I had been reading about Burrowing Owls in Tucson but never knew exactly where to find them.  Then I discovered a website called EarthDeck which allows you to type in an animal and it shows you where they are in the USA.  So I just followed the map to some farming areas west of Tucson.  Success!

I also found a huge field that was set up for Burrowing Owl sites, but I didn't have the good binoculars with me or any fancy optics so I will have to come back another time to see the owls there.  But I was really pleased that we found some and could get relatively close to them.

Tubac Art Festival

We drove south for 1 1/2 hours to get to the old town of Tubac.  It feels like visiting a Mexican village.  The annual art show was going on.  Lots of Indian and Cactus themed art.

These look nice, but the blooms are fake!

Bingo Night

Last night we had the monthly Bingo game.  You have to arrive at least one hour early to get a seat for you and your pals.

The table is ready with our nine games at a time and our "dobbers" for marking the Bingo numbers.

The $60 I won during a game.  With 174 people playing 13 games, it's quite surprising to win!  But very exciting and fun!
